Cat People and Dog People (Patreon 2016)

about

Here is a very silly song I wrote years ago about the differences between cat people and dog people. It's working title was the very long "Cat People Get Depressed But Dog People Get the Blues." I just recorded it for my SUPERB PATRONS AT PATREON! (www.patreon.com/DrMaryCCrowell)

In 2006 I was getting ready to release a mythologically themed first album with an eye toward a later gaming album. So, bless its heart--this song couldn't really fit with either theme. It was neither fish nor fowl but definitely dog and cat!
After Rachel, Mark, Brian, Kevin, and Suzan and I attended The Doubleclicks' concert in Atlanta back in July 2016, Rachel remarked she wanted to hear a duet between the cat keyboard (the Double-clicks have one!) and my dog guitar I acquired at GAFilk. The dog guitar has a C scale only and a um. and a 'whammy bone.' Er. Yes. The cat keyboard has a little over two chromatic octaves. I'm still learning a bit about the most effective way to record these two instruments.
I had entirely too much fun singing meows and 'dog dog dog doggy's' into the microphone myself.

The drums are some default drum loops that come with Logic Pro 9. The cat verses are chilling' out to cool jazz drumset and jazz brush drumset loops, and the dog verses are rocking' to Chicago Blues style drumset loops. The piano sound is Yamaha grand piano (not a loop--I played that out); and after shopping out various bass sounds I decided on Electric Jazz Bass. Its timbre fit both the jazz style of the cat verses and blues style of the dog verses.
I hope you guys enjoy!

Cat People Get Depressed, But Dog People Get the Blues.
Copyright 2006 by Mary Crowell

Dm7
Cat people
G7
Get depressed,
Dm7 G7
Get hair on their favorite vest,
Ab7
Tell no jokes,
CM7
But speak in jest.
Dm7 G7 CM7
Cat people get depressed.

C7
Dog people
F7 C7
They get the blues.
F7
(I say now) dog people
C7
They get the blues.
G7 F7
Ain’t got no time to make a clever rhyme.
C7
Dog folks get the blues.

Cat people
Get depressed,
Cough up hairballs that they ingest.
In your own home, you’re just a guest.
Cat people get depressed.

Dog people
They get the blues.
(I say now) dog people
They get the blues.
You’ll find no lies in their sad soulful eyes.
Dog folks get the blues.

Cat people
Get depressed,
Are clawed by those that they love best.
By furry felines they’re oppressed.
Cat people get depressed.

Dog people
They get the blues.
(I say now) dog people
They get the blues.
No explaining the attraction. They’ll just love you to distraction.
Dog folks get the blues.
