Mary Crowell and Play It With Moxie - C'est Excellent Pour La Sante

about

"C'est Excellent Pour Le Santé" is from one of our Play It with Moxie lair rehearsals just before GAFilk this year. In this recording I sing it a bit more growly than I sang it later in the banquet. I used the very pretty but fairly unforgiving Moxie microphone. In the banquet we decided I should use a microphone that I could move away from and still be heard. (I like to dance at the keyboard when we hit the uptempo songs.) As the recording progresses, you can hear the band members decide what they are going to add to the mix as the song picks up energy. It first acquires harmony, then bass, and then a bit of Dave Rood's trumpet.

Credits: Many thanks to Brian Richardson, our drummer and emcee! He not only played some fine percussion during the song, but recorded it and several of the other lair recordings that the band has. The band has kindly agreed to let me share this recording with you.

You'll hear George Powell is on bass. (He sang some harmony too during the Saturday night performance and wore a dapper beret! Sadly, we don't have his singing on this version.) Jodi Krangle and Teresa Powell sang delicious harmonies. Dave Rood is on trumpet. Amy McNally may be on harmonies for this version, but she may also just be smiling rakishly and cheering us on.

This song is from a 2018 Soulwriters monthly prompt--use at least one non English word or phrase in your song. (As an aside, fellow soul writer Jim Mahaffey wrote a parody of "Smooth Operator" to this prompt. He called it "Smooth Mashed Potatoes" and its non English phrase was 'au gratin'. Moxie often covers "Smooth Operator" so we were able to cobble together a performance of his parody one of the evenings of GAFilk. It was tremendous fun!)

C’est Excellent Pour La Santé

Chorus:
Je sais que tu sais que je sais,
C’est une question de goût.
Dans ma jeunesse, dans ma jeunesse Je mange les riches. Je mange les riche. C’est excellent pour la santé

I’ll take some haricot verts. That means
Green beans.
Toss with la beurre to share Don’t shudder—

That’s butter . . .

Chorus
Je sais que tu sais que je sais,
C’est une question de goût.
Dans ma jeunesse, dans ma jeunesse Je mange les riches. Je mange les riche. C’est excellent pour la santé

Bridge:
L’homme du Fortune
Oui! Le grand monsieur
Will go nicely with les carottes Julienned for sure.
The pauvre and the poor
Oh! Ils l’adorent!
Oh! Lock your door ‘cuz

Chorus

Le sang of his heart on your plate. The cheddar
Tastes better
Such things will flocculate

With rennet Just spin it!

Chorus

Chorus in English:

I know that you know that I know It’s just a question of taste.
In my youth, Oh, in my youth
I eat the rich,. I eat the rich.

It’s excellent for the health.

Chorus

C’est Excellent! C’est Excellent! C’est Excellent! C’est Excellent! Pour la santé!
