Um. I need y'all to pretend that it is actually October, please. And if if you would like to pretend it is October 2016 even better. (Or even October 2008 because that's when the album photo was taken.)
"Pumpkin Spice Latte" comes from an October soulwriters song prompt-- you needed to include both an herb and a precious stone in your lyrics, although there was a bit of latitude in both requirements. I've been writing a song a week since the beginning of 2017, and I am pleased with how this one came out.
AND THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS RECORDING IS THAT BROOKE ABBEY PLAYS BANJO AND SINGS ON IT!!!! Yup. She visited Wesley and me after Chambanacon and lent her fine musical talents to this project, and I think you guys will enjoy it mightily. I sure did!
Also, Wesley thinks I should call the song "Autumn's Kiss." So I may retitle it "Pumpkin Spice Latte (Autumn's Kiss)" at some point.
Please, look upon (or listen to) this song much as you would a photo of an adorable cat, puppy, or fox gif. It offers a short respite from worry before we all go back out there and try to make the world a better place.

Pumpkin Spice Latte
Copyright 2017 by Mary Crowell
Hey, it’s getting colder,
And I’m another year older.
I’ve tried to cut out sugar, so I miss—
The coffee serving as my Autumn’s kiss.
Pumpkin Spice Latte!
It’s gotten controversial
It’s seasonal, commercial,
But my problem’s with the sweetener, don’t you see?
I wish that Starbucks’s made it sugar free.
Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Chorus:
October’s rainbow birthstones—
Its tourmaline and opal
Have shown up in the maple leaves,
And gosh, I’m feeling hopeful
That maybe things are looking up.
Put some Autumn in my cup.
Make a little pumpkin spice for me.
Pumpkin Spice Latte!
I think I’ll try to make some
I’ll rummage, and I’ll take some
Spices from the cupboard—Cinnamon,
And ginger, nutmeg, all spice. Oh, sweet sin!
Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Bridge:
You can buy it bottled for a price
They call it pumpkin pie spice
Near the barbecue and hot sauce Cajun
What the heck is a “sulfiting agent”?
I don’t know, but in it goes
And it warms me all the way to my toes.
It’s pumpkin spice latte.
Chorus:
October’s rainbow birthstones—
Its tourmaline and opal
Have shown up in the maple leaves,
And gosh, I’m feeling hopeful
That maybe things are looking up.
Put some Autumn in my cup.
Make a little pumpkin spice for me.
Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Hey, it’s getting colder,
And I’m another year older.
I’ve tried to cut out sugar, so I miss—
The coffee serving as my Autumn’s kiss.
Pumpkin Spice Latte!

The lyrics are brilliant and vocal arrangements irresistible. The vocal counterpoint in “Last Spaceship,” “Common Ground,” and “Quetico” are particular favorites of mine. Mary Crowell
Songs of mythology, magpies, and Mal performed by a duo who have truly mastered their instruments--guitar and voice. This album is superb. Mary Crowell
Swing dance, blues, and jazz with great lyrics and energy played live to an appreciative audience! And there's a bit of the geek there too. Mary Crowell
